Chapter 6 - The Night the Children Disappeared
Victor’s network did not collapse immediately.
Several board members remained free.
One of them, Dr. Adrian Vale, ran the private clinic connected to the illegal procedures.
Before authorities could arrest him, he disappeared.
Then Hope, Eli, and Grace vanished from the secure apartment.
The caregivers were found sedated.
A service elevator camera showed a woman wearing a federal badge escorting the children.
The badge belonged to an agent killed two years earlier.
Adrian had help inside law enforcement.
Hope left a clue.
A paper rabbit beneath the bed with three lines drawn across one ear.

Coming back.
Claire recognized the folding pattern.
She had taught Hope to hide directions inside paper animals.
When investigators unfolded it, numbers appeared along the creases.
They matched shipping-container coordinates at the Brooklyn waterfront.
Adrian planned to move the children by cargo vessel.
Why take them?
Grace carried medical evidence inside her body.
Her old surgical scar concealed an implanted tracking chip used during illegal trials.
Adrian needed to remove it before authorities found the data.
Hope and Eli were witnesses.
Federal teams surrounded the pier.
Daniel and Claire waited in a command vehicle.
Inside one container, Hope stalled Adrian by claiming Grace could not breathe.
When he opened the door, she struck an emergency alarm mounted on the wall.
Agents entered.
Adrian took Hope hostage.
“Everyone thinks children tell the truth,” he said. “Children tell whatever story keeps them safe.”
Hope stared at him.
“That’s why I kept changing mine until Daniel came.”
She bit his hand.
Agents pulled her free.
Adrian was arrested.
Grace underwent surgery.
The implanted device contained timestamps, medication dosages, and clinic locations.
It documented procedures involving dozens of children.
Her body had carried the records Victor wanted erased.
Claire sat beside Grace afterward.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t stop them.”
Grace touched her hand.
“You came back.”
The phrase belonged to the code.
