Chapter 7 - The Front Pew Under the Rose Arch

Richard took my right arm, while Benjamin rose and took my left.

Together, flanked by the billionaire developer and the brilliant architect, I was escorted down the center aisle.

The four hundred guests stood in unison.

There were no more dismissive smirks. No more whispering glances.

As we walked past the mahogany pews, elderly executives, bank directors, and childhood friends nodded with profound, emotional reverence. Several guests had tears streaming down their faces.

The organist struck the opening chords of Canon in D with triumphant, soaring majesty.

At the very front of the chapel, beneath the cascading arch of white roses and sweet jasmine, the primary pew was draped in gold velvet.

Richard Sterling personally escorted me to the seat of honor—Seat 1-A—placing me directly in the center of the front row, bathed in the warm, radiant sunlight streaming through the stained-glass depiction of St. Michael.

Claire walked to the center of the altar, taking her place beside Benjamin.

Her veil remained pulled back. Her face was glowing with pure, unyielding joy.

Benjamin looked at his bride with a love so fierce and deep it seemed to illuminate the entire sanctuary. He turned slightly toward me, placing his hand over his heart once more.

I smoothed the faded blue fabric across my lap, smiled through my tears, and placed my hand over my heart in return.

The old dress had not brought shame to my son’s wedding.

It had brought his mother’s soul into the light.
