Chapter 6 - THE HOSPITAL THAT SOLD ITS SILENCE

The compliance investigation began quietly.

Hospital security reviewed access logs.

The information technology team examined administrative changes.

And the compliance officer interviewed staff who had handled room assignments that night.

Vivien gave a statement.

She described the discrepancy.

The note.

The meeting with Dr. Price.

The compliance officer listened carefully.

“Do you believe Dr. Price altered the record?”

Vivien shook her head.

“I don't know.”

“Do you believe your supervisor was involved?”

“I don't know that either.”

She took a breath.

“I just know the room wasn't empty.”

Meanwhile, Dante's investigators discovered that St. Ambrose had accepted large donations from a foundation controlled by Teresa Morello.

The donations were legal.

But several coincided with unusual transfers of patient records to an external archive.

Roman placed the findings on Dante's desk.

“There's more.”

Dante looked up.

Roman continued.

“Eleven years ago, St. Ambrose treated a teenage boy after a serious injury.”

Dante went still.

“What boy?”

Roman hesitated.

“The record was sealed under a different name.”

Dante stood.

Roman looked at him.

“The age matches Nico.”

For a moment, Dante couldn't breathe.

Then he asked:

“Where is he?”

Roman shook his head.

“We don't know.”

Dante stared at the file.

For eleven years, he'd believed his brother had abandoned him.

Now he wondered whether Nico had been taken somewhere he couldn't leave.

And someone at St. Ambrose had helped hide the truth.
