Chapter 6 - The Spider’s Web Collapses

Julian’s arrest sent shockwaves through our social circle and his prestigious financial consulting firm. The man everyone regarded as the pillar of the community was suddenly on the front page of the evening news, pictured in orange prison scrubs.
However, a monster’s influence rarely dies with a single arrest.
Julian’s wealthy family immediately posted his multi-million-dollar bail through a high-profile bond agency. Within twenty-four hours, he was released under strict ankle-monitor house arrest at his parents' fortified estate in the hills, awaiting grand jury indictment.
That night, the pressure began.
My burner phone provided by the shelter received a series of anonymous messages. First came offers of financial settlements—two million dollars in a trust fund for the child if I recanted my testimony and claimed the recordings were part of an agreed-upon 'roleplay.' When I ignored them, the tone shifted into veiled threats against Marcus Vance and the shelter staff.
Julian’s mother even attempted to force her way into my OB-GYN clinic to access my prenatal medical records, intending to claim that prenatal depression caused false memories.
Marcus met me in the shelter's library.
"They are throwing everything at the wall to keep this from going to trial," Marcus said. "Julian knows that if the grand jury hears those tapes in open court, he is looking at twenty-five years to life without parole."
"Let them try," I said. My voice was no longer the trembling whisper of a woman trapped in a bathroom corner. "I spent seven months drowning in silence. I won't drown in court."

We compiled every text message, every bribe attempt, and every violation of the no-contact order. Marcus submitted an emergency motion for bail revocation directly to Superior Court Judge Harrison.
The spider's web was unraveling, and Julian was running out of threads.
