Chapter 5 - The Unmasking Protocol

While I rested under medical supervision in a secure, undisclosed shelter on the outskirts of the city, Marcus Vance and Detective Sarah Morales of the SVU executed the unmasking protocol.
Julian had spent the afternoon playing the frantic, devastated husband. He had filed a missing person report with the local precinct, claiming his pregnant wife had suffered a severe perinatal psychosis episode and wandered off without her medication. He had even called my estranged relatives, painting a tragic picture of a man desperate to save his fragile wife.
At 4:00 PM, Detective Morales called Julian to the precinct under the pretext of 'reviewing potential surveillance footage' of my whereabouts.
Julian arrived in a pristine charcoal suit, his eyes artificially red from fabricated weeping. He sat across from Detective Morales and Marcus Vance in the interrogation room, accompanied by his high-priced corporate defense lawyer.
"Detective, please tell me you've found her," Julian pleaded, placing a trembling hand on the table. "She isn't well. The pregnancy has caused severe chemical imbalances. I just want to bring her home and get her the psychiatric help she needs."
Detective Morales didn't flinch. She placed an iPad on the metal table and connected a portable speaker.
"Mr. Vance, we did find something," Morales said calmly. "We found several audio recordings retrieved from an off-site cloud server with certified digital watermarks."
Morales pressed play.
The room filled with the unmistakable sound of running water, followed by muffled, agonizing choking sounds, and then Julian's smooth, unhurried voice: 'If you struggle, it only lasts longer, Elena. Stop fighting the water.'
The color drained from Julian’s face in a fraction of a second.
His lawyer stared at him, jaw slack, before immediately closing his briefcase and leaning back, refusing to utter a single word of defense.

"That's... that's edited. It's AI-generated," Julian stammered, his smooth composure shattering into jagged panic. "She set me up! She's crazy!"
"Forensic audio analysis has already verified the acoustic resonance and biometric voice match to you, Mr. Vance," Detective Morales said coldly, standing up and unholstering a pair of steel handcuffs. "Julian Vance, you are under arrest for attempted murder, aggravated torture, and felony domestic abuse. Stand up and put your hands behind your back."
