Chapter 4 - THE MEDICINE CABINET

Anna had worked in healthcare before becoming a housekeeper.

Not as a physician.

Not as a nurse.

As a medical records coordinator at a rehabilitation clinic.

She understood appointments, prescriptions, consent forms, and the importance of accurate documentation.

She also understood that medication errors could be dangerous.

So when Dante quietly asked her whether she knew how to organize medical records, she answered carefully.

“Yes, sir.”

He looked at her.

“Would you help me locate my records?”

Anna hesitated.

“Shouldn't Mr. Hale—”

“No.”

Dante's voice was firm.

“I want to see what has been kept from me.”

Together, they reviewed the documents Dante could legally access.

Prescription lists.

Appointment summaries.

Discharge instructions.

Insurance records.

Anna noticed several inconsistencies.

Some medication changes lacked clear explanations.

Certain appointments appeared in the household calendar but not in the hospital records.

And several documents had been signed by Victor as an authorized representative.

Anna frowned.

“Sir, did you give Mr. Hale permission to make medical decisions for you?”

Dante stared.

“After the explosion.”

“Was it temporary?”

“I thought so.”

Anna looked down.

“Then you may want an attorney to review the authorization.”

Dante's jaw tightened.

He called his independent lawyer, Rachel Donovan.

Rachel arrived the following morning.

She reviewed the documents.

Then looked at Dante.

“Some of these authorizations may still be active.”

Dante stared.

“Why?”

“Because nobody revoked them.”

He closed his eyes.

Rachel continued.

“We can address that immediately. You should also have your medical team review your medications rather than changing anything abruptly.”

Dante nodded.

For three years, Victor had told him he was too unwell to handle complicated decisions.

Now Dante was beginning to understand how much authority he'd surrendered.

That evening, Isabella Romano arrived at the mansion.

She wore a cream coat and carried a small overnight bag.

Dante met her in the foyer.

“You're early.”

She smiled.

“I missed you.”

He kissed her cheek.

Then noticed her eyes move toward the medicine cabinet near the hallway.

“Something wrong?” he asked.

She shook her head.

“No.”

But later, when she thought he was asleep, Dante heard her speaking quietly on the phone.

“He's asking about the prescriptions.”

A pause.

Then:

“No. I don't think he knows everything.”

Dante remained motionless.

May you like

Isabella whispered:

“We need to move faster.”
