A toxin as rare and potent as aconite couldn't be bought at a local pharmacy. As Detective Miller interrogated Vanessa at the downtown precinct, federal investigators began tracing the supply chain.

Vanessa refused to speak, demanding her high-priced defense attorney. But her burner phone, recovered from the bridal suite dressing table, provided the breakthrough.

Deleted encrypted messages on an offshore server revealed communication with a contact listed only as "Dr. J."

Dr. J: "The batch is purified. Three drops in any acidic beverage will trigger cardiac arrest in 20 minutes. No detectable metabolite after 12 hours."

Vanessa: "Payment of $250k sent to your Swiss account. The remaining $500k arrives the day after the estate probate clears."

By 3:00 AM, FBI cyber-forensics tracked the IP address and bank routing numbers to Julian Cross, a disgraced former pharmaceutical researcher based in Boston who had lost his license five years earlier for illegal biochemical trafficking.

SWAT teams raided Cross’s suburban laboratory outside Boston before dawn.

Caught with three liters of concentrated raw plant alkaloids, multiple forged passports, and a ledger documenting payments from several wealthy socialites, Cross folded immediately under interrogation.
