Chapter 10 - Sunlight and New Beginnings

One year later.

The summer sun beamed over the terrace of the newly opened Foster-Sterling Community Legal Center in downtown Chicago—a non-profit organization funded jointly by my company and Claire Kensington, dedicated to providing free legal protection and private forensic support for vulnerable domestic workers and abuse victims.

Dozens of advocates, detectives, and rescued families gathered on the sunlit lawn, enjoying music and laughter.

Emily, dressed in a sharp blazer, stood at the podium to deliver the opening address. Her confidence, warmth, and brilliance radiated through the crowd. When she finished, the courtyard erupted into standing applause.

After the ceremony, Emily and I walked together toward the riverwalk, the afternoon breeze carrying the fresh scent of summer.

We stopped at an open-air cafe overlooking the sparkling river. The waiter arrived carrying two fresh glasses of chilled sparkling lemonade.

I looked at my glass, then looked at Emily with a playful smile.

"Do I need to check this first?" I teased gently.

Emily laughed—a bright, beautiful, carefree laugh that washed away every lingering ghost of the past.

"You're safe, Liam," she smiled, raising her glass. "Here's to real truth, true courage, and a future built on honor."

We clinked our glasses together under the golden afternoon sun.

The shattered pieces of the past were gone forever, replaced by the unbreakable foundation of justice, healing, and a love that was finally, beautifully real.

THE END
