Chapter 6 - THE NIGHT ORION SAVED HER LIFE

The attack happened outside my apartment.
I was returning from work when I noticed a dark sedan parked across the street.
Two men stood beside it.
Watching.
I tried to ignore them.
Then one stepped forward.
“Olivia Bennett?”
My stomach tightened.
“Yes?”
He smiled.
“We need to ask you a few questions.”
I stepped back.
“About what?”
“Your mother.”
My blood went cold.
I turned toward the building.
The second man moved to block the entrance.
My heart pounded.
Then I heard barking.
Loud.
Furious.
Orion.
The huge dog came charging down the sidewalk.
Dante followed behind him.
“Orion!”
The dog stopped between me and the strangers.
His body was rigid.
His teeth bared.
The men backed away.
Dante stepped beside me.
His expression was deadly.
“Who sent you?”
Neither answered.
Dante's security team arrived moments later.
The strangers fled.
I stood shaking.
Dante turned toward me.
“Are you hurt?”
I shook my head.
He looked at Orion.
The dog pressed against my leg.
I began crying.
Dante hesitated.
Then asked, “May I?”
I nodded.
May you like
He wrapped his arms around me.
And for the first time in years, I let someone hold me while I cried.
