Chapter 12 - THE DAUGHTER OF HIS GREATEST ENEMY

The final revelation came from a letter hidden inside the metal box.
It was addressed to me.
My mother's handwriting filled the page.
My darling Olivia,
There is something I never found the courage to tell you.
Your father was not the man whose name appears on your birth certificate.
My hands began shaking.
Dante sat beside me.
I continued reading.
Your biological father was a man named Gabriel Romano.
He worked for the Moretti family.
He discovered Vincenzo's crimes and tried to stop him.
Vincenzo had him killed before you were born.
I stared.
My throat tightened.
My mother had raised me alone.
I'd always believed my father abandoned us.
Now I understood.
He hadn't left.
He'd been taken.
Dante looked at me.
His expression softened.
“Olivia.”
I began crying.
He held my hand.
I whispered, “He killed my father.”
Dante nodded.
“Yes.”
I looked up.
“And your father.”
His eyes filled.
“Yes.”
For the first time, our grief was the same.
Different lives.
May you like
Different losses.
One man responsible.
