Chapter 12 - THE TRUTH SAMUEL BENNETT LEFT BEHIND

The investigation into Samuel Bennett's death was reopened.

Authorities reviewed the original accident report.

Witness statements.

Workplace records.

And the financial evidence he'd collected.

The new inquiry raised questions about why Samuel had been at the warehouse that day.

Several people who had worked there provided additional information.

One witness recalled seeing Daniel Mercer near the property shortly before the accident.

Another remembered an argument.

The evidence did not immediately establish exactly what happened.

But it was enough to warrant further investigation.

Isabella attended meetings with her attorney.

Noah joined when he could.

Together, they reviewed the information.

One afternoon, Detective Hayes called.

"We have an update."

Isabella's heart pounded.

The detective explained that investigators had found evidence suggesting Samuel's death might not have been accidental.

The case was being examined as a possible criminal matter.

Isabella began crying.

For seventeen months, she'd been told to accept the accident.

Now someone was finally listening.

Adrien sat beside her.

He didn't promise justice would be quick.

He didn't pretend the process would be easy.

He simply held her hand.

Later, Isabella visited her father's grave.

She brought flowers.

And a copy of the letter from Helena Voss.

She knelt.

"Dad."

Her voice broke.

"They're listening now."

Wind moved through the trees.

She wiped her eyes.

"I wish you were here."

May you like

Then she smiled through tears.

"But I think you'd be proud."
