Chapter 11 - THE HOUSE THAT BECAME A HOME

The Voss estate changed slowly.

Not because Isabella returned as housekeeper.

She didn't.

But because Adrien began seeing the house differently.

He had spent years treating it as a fortress.

A place to conduct business.

A place to sleep.

A place where every object was expensive and nothing felt personal.

Now he wanted it to feel like a home.

He opened the curtains in rooms that had remained dark for years.

Replaced formal furniture with comfortable chairs.

Brought books into the sitting room.

And began inviting friends for ordinary dinners.

Marco watched the changes with amusement.

"You're becoming domestic."

Adrien looked at him.

"Is that a problem?"

Marco smiled.

"Not at all."

One afternoon, Isabella visited.

She stopped in the foyer.

The brass key she'd left behind was displayed in a small wooden box on the console table.

She stared.

"Adrien."

He looked up.

"What?"

"Why is my old key in a box?"

He smiled faintly.

"Because it reminds me of something."

She frowned.

"What?"

He approached.

"That people aren't possessions."

Isabella's expression softened.

He continued.

"And that sometimes the bravest thing you can do is let someone walk away."

She looked at him.

"Even if you love them?"

Adrien nodded.

"Especially then."

Isabella smiled.

May you like

Then took his hand.

For the first time, the estate felt warm.
