Chapter 7 - THE NIGHT SHE WAS TAKEN

Claire disappeared on a Friday evening.

She had left the office at six.

Her car was found two blocks away.

The driver's door stood open.

Her handbag lay on the pavement.

And her phone had been smashed.

Dominic stared at the photographs.

His expression became terrifyingly still.

Marco stood beside him.

“We're searching.”

Dominic looked up.

“Find her.”

“Boss—”

“Find her.”

Meanwhile, Claire woke in a dark warehouse.

Her wrists were bound.

A single light burned overhead.

Anthony Vescari sat across from her.

He smiled.

“Miss Bennett.”

Claire stared at him.

“Anthony.”

He looked amused.

“You don't seem frightened.”

“I am.”

“Then why are you smiling?”

“Because you're exactly as incompetent in person as you are with spreadsheets.”

His smile disappeared.

Claire's heart pounded.

But she refused to look away.

Anthony leaned forward.

“You should have stayed out of my business.”

Claire raised an eyebrow.

“You should have learned basic accounting.”

He slammed his hand against the table.

Claire flinched.

Then forced herself to breathe.

Anthony stared at her.

“You think Dominic will save you?”

Claire looked toward the door.

“I think you've made a very expensive mistake.”

Anthony laughed.

“You don't understand how powerful I am.”

May you like

Claire met his eyes.

“Neither do you.”
