Chapter 10 - THE WOMAN WHO CHOSE HERSELF

Claire resigned three months later.

Dominic was stunned.

He stared at the letter.

“Why?”

She sat across from him.

“Because I don't want our relationship complicated by the fact that you're my boss.”

He frowned.

“You don't have to leave.”

“I know.”

“Then why?”

Claire smiled.

“Because I want to build something of my own.”

Dominic studied her.

“What?”

“An event management company.”

He leaned back.

“That's ambitious.”

She raised an eyebrow.

“Are you doubting me?”

He smiled.

“Never.”

Claire continued.

“I've spent years working for people who underestimated me.”

Her voice softened.

“I want to stop asking permission.”

Dominic looked at her.

Then nodded.

“Then do it.”

She smiled.

“And no, you're not funding it.”

He laughed.

“I hadn't said anything.”

“You were thinking it.”

He sighed.

“Apparently, I'm becoming predictable.”

Claire leaned forward.

“You can support me.”

“How?”

“By believing I can succeed.”

Dominic took her hand.

“Claire Bennett, I believed that the moment you walked into my office.”

She smiled.

And for the first time, she realized she didn't need a powerful man to save her.
