Chapter 10 - THE BROTHER'S CONFESSION

The investigation eventually uncovered financial records connecting Luca to a scheme involving the shipping company.
Witnesses described suspicious meetings.
Bank records showed transfers through shell corporations.
And forensic analysis raised serious questions about the vehicle's condition before the crash.
Luca was questioned by authorities.
He initially denied wrongdoing.
Then investigators confronted him with the evidence.
His story changed.
He admitted that he had arranged unauthorized modifications to the vehicle.
He claimed he only wanted to frighten Massimo into stepping away from the business.
But the consequences had been catastrophic.
Massimo nearly died.
And his spinal injury changed his life.
When Massimo learned the truth, he sat alone for hours.
I found him beside the window.
He didn't look up.
“My brother did it.”
I sat nearby.
He continued.
“I spent months blaming myself.”
His voice trembled.
“Thinking maybe I deserved it.”
I looked at him.
“You didn't.”
Massimo closed his eyes.
Then whispered:
“I loved him.”
I nodded.
“I know.”

He began crying.
And for the first time, he allowed himself to grieve the brother he thought he'd known.
