Chapter 9 - The Tables Turn

Six months later, Isadora stood before a packed courtroom.
She wore a simple navy suit.
Behind her sat former Rossi employees, victims, journalists, and federal investigators.
In front sat the remaining members of the old organization.
She placed the final ledger on the evidence table.
“This book contains twenty-seven years of financial records.”
The prosecutor looked at her.
“Are you certain?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because I translated every page myself.”
The courtroom murmured.
Then the judge asked:
“Ms. Marino, do you understand the consequences of submitting this evidence?”
Isadora looked toward Giovanni.
He sat in the gallery.
No guards.
No weapons.
No empire.
Just a man.
“Yes,” she said.
“I understand.”
She turned back.
“And I am still submitting it.”
The verdict came weeks later.
The Rossi criminal network was dismantled.
The legitimate companies survived under independent management.
Giovanni refused control over them.
Antonio started a foundation for families harmed by organized crime.
Elena recovered slowly.
And Isadora became one of the most respected young attorneys on the Amalfi Coast.
But one evening, she returned to La Corona.
Gio was waiting outside.
He held something behind his back.
“What did you do?”
“Nothing.”
“That's suspicious.”
He smiled.
Then he revealed a small box.
Inside was her silver locket.
“I had it restored.”
Isadora opened it.
The warning had been removed.
In its place was a new inscription.
Choose Your Own Life.
She looked at him.
“Did you write that?”
“No.”
“Who did?”
Gio pointed toward the kitchen.
Emilio stepped outside.
“It was your mother.”
May you like
Isadora began crying.
