Chapter 7 - The Brother Returns

Antonio and Giovanni stood face to face.

Neither moved.

Finally Antonio said:

“You got taller.”

Gio almost laughed.

“You got uglier.”

Antonio smiled.

“Family tradition.”

For the first time in years, Giovanni looked like a younger brother rather than a mafia boss.

Isadora watched silently.

Then Antonio turned toward her.

“I owe you an apology.”

“For what?”

“For letting you believe you were alone.”

“You knew about me?”

“I watched over you.”

“From a distance.”

“Yes.”

“You should have come home.”

Antonio lowered his eyes.

“I didn't know how.”

Before they could say more, police sirens sounded outside.

Margaretta's face collapsed.

Gio looked toward the doors.

“Who called them?”

Isadora raised her hand.

“I did.”

Everyone stared.

She had secretly sent the evidence to federal investigators hours earlier.

Margaretta laughed.

“You think this ends with prison?”

“No.”

Isadora stepped toward her.

“It ends with your empire belonging to the people you stole it from.”

Margaretta's smile vanished.

But then she whispered:

“You don't understand.”

She leaned closer.

“The Rossi family isn't the most powerful family involved.”

Isadora frowned.

“Who is?”

Margaretta smiled.

“The people who hired your father.”

A gunshot rang out.

Margaretta collapsed.

Chaos erupted.

Gio grabbed Isadora and pulled her down.

Antonio shouted.

“Everyone DOWN!”

But the shooter had already disappeared.

And on the table lay a single black envelope.

Inside was a photograph.

Isadora's father.

Elena.

Margaretta.

And a fourth person.

May you like

The governor of Campania.
