Chapter 12 - THE TRUTH ABOUT VINCENT'S FATHER

The investigation revealed that Alessandro Marino had discovered Carlo's involvement before Thomas died.

He'd planned to expose the scheme.

But Carlo had threatened his family.

Alessandro made a terrible choice.

He remained silent.

Years later, guilt consumed him.

He left records that eventually helped investigators understand what had happened.

Vincent struggled with the truth.

“My father knew.”

His voice broke.

I sat beside him.

“Yes.”

He looked down.

“He could have helped Thomas.”

I swallowed.

“Maybe.”

Vincent closed his eyes.

For the first time, I saw him grieving not only for his father.

But for the man he'd believed his father was.

I took his hand.

“You don't have to become him.”

Vincent looked at me.

I continued.

“You can choose differently.”

His eyes filled.

He nodded.

“Yes.”

And for the first time, Vincent Marino understood that loyalty to family did not require protecting their crimes.
