Chapter 7 - THE NIGHT THE PENTHOUSE WENT DARK

Gabriel was discharged weeks later with a detailed rehabilitation plan.

His infection had improved.

He could move both feet.

But walking remained difficult.

He required assistance, physical therapy, and continued medical follow-up.

I agreed to remain involved in his recovery as a private nurse.

On one condition.

“No guns in the treatment room.”

Gabriel raised an eyebrow.

“That's your condition?”

“Yes.”

He smiled.

“Anything else?”

“No threatening medical staff.”

His smile widened.

“Demanding.”

“Professional.”

He laughed.

It was the first time I'd heard him laugh.

Then, one night, the penthouse lost power.

The emergency lights flickered.

Luca's radio crackled.

“Security breach. Service elevator.”

Gabriel looked toward the door.

His expression changed instantly.

“Emily, get behind me.”

I stared.

“You can barely stand.”

He reached for the edge of the bed.

“Do it.”

I grabbed my phone.

“Luca!”

The security chief appeared.

He moved us into a secure interior room while his team investigated.

Minutes later, they found evidence that someone had tampered with the building's electrical controls.

No attacker reached us.

But the message was unmistakable.

Someone knew Gabriel had survived.

And someone wasn't happy about it.
