Chapter 5 - The 99.999% Genetic Verdict

Within fifteen minutes, Dr. Robert Bennett, Chief of Pediatric Medicine at Mount Sinai, arrived at the bakery accompanied by a mobile forensic laboratory vanguard.
Under Marcus Stone’s armed perimeter, Dr. Bennett took a gentle buccal swab from Clara’s cheek and a blood sample from Alexander’s finger, inserting them into a rapid PCR genetic sequencing terminal inside the mobile medical unit.
Clara sat wrapped in Alexander’s heavy cashmere coat on a velvet banquette, sipping hot cocoa, eating a warm slice of the white-strawberry cake with small, delicate bites.
Alexander never let go of her hand.
Victoria Vance stood near the doorway, trembling as two Black Watch operators blocked the exit.
“Alexander, this is outrageous!” Victoria stammered, her voice cracking in hysterical panic. “You can't believe this homeless girl based on a stolen locket! Nurse Clara probably burglarized your estate years ago!”
BEEP.
The genetic analyzer completed its cycle.
Dr. Bennett walked out of the mobile suite, holding the sealed gold-stamped certificate.
“Mr. Sterling,” Dr. Bennett announced, his voice ringing with absolute scientific finality. “Direct genetic paternal probability between Alexander Sterling and the child Clara Sterling is 99.9998%. She is your biological daughter and the rightful, unchallengeable heir to the Sterling Dynasty.”
The bakery erupted into a collective, stunned gasp.
Alexander stood up slowly, lifting six-year-old Clara into his arms, resting her head securely against his shoulder.
His warm, tearful expression vanished, replaced by an aura of glacial, diamond-hard vengeance as he turned his gaze toward Victoria Vance.
“Marcus,” Alexander said softly.
