Chapter 4 - The Deed of the Estate

Before the board meeting, I made one essential stop.
At 12:15 PM, I returned to our gated estate in the suburbs, accompanied by two armed private security contractors and Deputy Sheriff Hayes.
Inside the house, Ethan’s mother, Evelyn, had already arrived with four large designer suitcases, lounging on my Italian leather sofa with a glass of chardonnay.
“Oh, look who crept back,” Evelyn sneered, not bothering to sit up. “Ethan told me what you did to poor Chloe this morning. You always were insecure, Mabel. My son deserves a woman of elegance, not someone who sits on inherited money like a broody hen. I’m moving into the master suite to help Ethan redecorate.”
“You won’t be redecorating anything, Evelyn,” I said calmly.
Deputy Sheriff Hayes stepped through the foyer, holding up a certified court document with a golden municipal seal.
“Mrs. Evelyn Vance,” Deputy Hayes announced. “I am serving an immediate Emergency Eviction Notice and Trespass Injunction.”
Evelyn dropped her wine glass. Red wine soaked into the Persian rug as she leaped to her feet, shrieking in outrage.
“Are you insane?! This is my son’s house! Ethan bought this mansion after his promotion!”
“Your son didn't buy a single brick,” I replied, pulling the original deed from my briefcase. “This estate was purchased in cash twelve years ago by the William Sterling Trust. Ethan’s name appears nowhere on the deed, the title, or the property tax roll. Under our prenuptial agreement, separate trust assets remain strictly excluded from marital property.”
I turned to the two security officers.
“Remove her suitcases to the curb. Change the electronic deadbolts, reprogram the gate biometric codes, and revoke all garage transponders immediately.”

“You ungrateful little viper!” Evelyn screamed as the officers escorted her toward the door. “Ethan will destroy you for this! He runs Vance Global!”
“He used to,” I whispered as the heavy mahogany doors clicked shut behind her.
