Chapter 9 - THE SIGNATURE THAT WASN'T HERS

The breakthrough came from a document.
Julian showed it to me one afternoon.
A consent form from a medical research facility.
It carried Claire Whitmore's signature.
I stared.
Then frowned.
“Something's wrong.”
Julian looked up.
“What?”
I pointed to the signature.
“The letters.”
He leaned closer.
“What about them?”
I hesitated.
“My mother used to work in medical records. She taught me how to notice inconsistencies.”
I looked at the document again.
“This signature looks copied.”
Julian went still.
“What?”
I pointed to another form.
“The pen pressure is identical.”
He stared.
“And the spacing.”
I swallowed.
“People don't sign their names exactly the same way every time.”
Julian's expression hardened.
He called Margaret.
Within hours, an independent forensic examiner reviewed the documents.
The conclusion was alarming.
Several signatures appeared to have been reproduced from the same source image.
Julian stared at the report.
Then whispered:
“Someone forged her consent.”
May you like
I looked at him.
“And maybe Nicholas found out.”
