Chapter 12 - THE FATHER WHO CHOSE HIS DAUGHTER

Daniel stepped away from day-to-day management of Whitmore Industries.

Not permanently.

But enough to change his life.

He delegated responsibilities.

Reduced unnecessary travel.

And began attending Lily's school events.

He learned that she hated early mornings.

That she loved old jazz records.

That she could solve complicated math problems while listening to music.

And that she still worried he might disappear.

One evening, she asked:

“Are you going to leave again?”

Daniel looked at her.

“No.”

She stared.

“You can't promise that.”

He nodded slowly.

“You're right.”

Then he said:

“I can't promise life will never change.”

He took a breath.

“But I can promise I won't choose to disappear from your life.”

Lily looked down.

Then whispered:

“Okay.”

He smiled.

“Okay?”

She nodded.

“Okay, Dad.”

Daniel froze.

Dad.

One word.

May you like

Fifteen years late.

And worth more than everything he owned.
