Chapter 7 - THE TRUTH ABOUT THE BROOKLYN SHOOTING

The truth emerged during a police investigation into the shooting.

My father had been leaving a restaurant when gunfire erupted nearby.

He wasn't involved in the dispute.

He was simply in the wrong place.

But the intended target was a man associated with Leo's organization.

The investigation revealed that the attack had been connected to a rivalry involving a group of shipping contractors.

My father had been an innocent bystander.

Leo had arranged medical assistance and covered expenses after learning what happened.

But there was another detail.

A man named Vincent Caruso had been present near the scene.

He worked with Nico.

And phone records suggested he had communicated with people involved in the dispute.

I stared at the report.

Then looked at Leo.

“Did Nico know?”

Leo's expression darkened.

“We're trying to determine that.”

My stomach tightened.

“Leo.”

He looked at me.

“Please tell me the truth.”

He nodded.

“I will.”

And for the first time, I realized that the betrayal at the Christmas party might have been only the beginning.
