Chapter 11 - THE FALL OF RENATO RICCI

The investigation into Renato's financial network continued for months.
The evidence from Isabella's storage locker helped authorities reconstruct decades of concealed transactions.
Other witnesses came forward.
Former employees.
Accountants.
Shipping officials.
Renato was arrested in connection with financial crimes, obstruction, and threats against witnesses.
The disappearance of Daniel Bellandi remained under investigation.
Alessandro cooperated with authorities.
He disclosed records.
Resigned from leadership positions tied to illegal activity.
And accepted scrutiny of his own role in the organization.
It wasn't easy.
He lost business partners.
Money.
Influence.
And people who had once called themselves loyal friends.
One evening, we met at Bellissimo after closing.
The restaurant was quiet.
Alessandro sat across from me.
“I don't know what comes next,” he admitted.
I looked at him.
“Neither do I.”
He smiled faintly.
“That's not very reassuring.”
I laughed.
“No.”
Then I grew serious.
“But I know I don't want a life built on fear.”
He nodded.
“Neither do I.”
For a long moment, we sat in silence.
Then Alessandro said, “Sophia, I need to tell you something.”
My heart quickened.
“I care about you.”
I looked down.
He continued.
“But I know your life has been controlled by men who thought they knew what was best for you.”
He paused.
“I don't want to become another one.”
I looked up.
“Then don't.”
He smiled.
May you like
“I won't.”
For the first time, I reached across the table and took his hand.
