Chapter 5 - THE GIRL WHO REFUSED HIS MONEY

Dante offered to pay my rent.
I refused.
He offered to replace my lost wages.
I refused that too.
Then he offered to hire me as an event consultant.
I stared.
“What?”
He smiled faintly.
“My foundation has a charity gala next month.”
I folded my arms.
“And?”
“We need an event coordinator.”
I narrowed my eyes.
“Is this pity?”
His expression changed.
“No.”
“Then why me?”
He leaned forward.
“Because you managed a five-hundred-person event while your supervisor threatened your career.”
I blinked.
He continued.
“And because you walked onto a terrace full of armed men to help someone you thought was in danger.”
I looked down.
He smiled.
“You're brave.”
I laughed softly.
“I'm reckless.”
“Sometimes they're the same thing.”
I shook my head.
“Dante.”
He looked at me.
“Yes?”
“If I work for you, I want a contract.”
He smiled.
“Of course.”
“Fair pay.”
“Yes.”
“And no special treatment.”
He hesitated.
I raised an eyebrow.
“Dante.”
He sighed.
“I'll try.”
May you like
I laughed.
And for the first time since the terrace, I felt like myself again.
