Chapter 11 - THE MAFIA BOSS WHO CHOSE MERCY

When I woke, I was in an unfamiliar room.
Concrete walls.
A single window.
A locked door.
My wrists were tied.
I tried to breathe.
Then the door opened.
Victor Salvatore stepped inside.
He smiled.
“Clara.”
I stared.
“You're making a mistake.”
He laughed.
“Am I?”
I swallowed.
“Dante will find me.”
Victor smiled.
“That's the idea.”
My stomach tightened.
He continued.
“He'll come for you.”
A pause.
“And when he does, I'll take everything from him.”
I stared.
Then whispered:
“You don't know him.”
Victor laughed.
“Oh, sweetheart.”
He leaned closer.
“I know exactly what kind of man he is.”
But Victor was wrong about one thing.
He expected Dante to arrive with guns.
Instead, Dante contacted federal investigators.
He provided evidence from Isabella's envelope.
Shipping records.
Financial transfers.
Names.
And information connecting Victor to a network of criminal operations.
The authorities coordinated a rescue operation.
And when the doors finally opened, Dante was standing behind the officers.
His face was pale.
His eyes filled.
“Clara.”
I began crying.
He crossed the room.
May you like
Pulled me into his arms.
And held me as though he had almost lost the only thing that mattered.
