Chapter 14 - THE LAST WAR

Victor Salvatore's arrest weakened his organization.
Several associates were charged.
Financial accounts were frozen.
And the criminal network began collapsing.
Dante faced his own reckoning.
He had spent years operating in a world where power was maintained through fear.

He began separating his legitimate businesses from criminal operations.
Cooperated with authorities.
Accepted legal consequences for his own conduct.
And gradually stepped away from the life that had defined him.
It wasn't easy.
He lost money.
Influence.
People he once considered loyal.
But he gained something he had never expected.
Peace.
One evening, we stood on the same terrace where we'd first met.
Snow drifted over Manhattan.
Dante looked at me.
“Clara.”
I smiled.
“Yes?”
“Do you ever regret kissing me?”
I considered.
Then laughed softly.
“Frequently.”
He smiled.
“Frequently?”
I nodded.
“Especially when you leave your shoes in the hallway.”
He laughed.
Then took my hand.
“But seriously?”
I looked into his eyes.
“No.”
His expression softened.
I continued.
“Because that night, I met a man who was dangerous.”
A pause.
“And then I watched him choose to become someone better.”
May you like
Dante kissed my forehead.
And for the first time, I knew we were building something real.
