Chapter 8 - THE BRIDE WHO SPOKE FOR HERSELF

Genevieve held a press conference outside Hayes Logistics headquarters.
She wore a navy suit.
Her hair was pulled back.
No wedding dress.
No engagement ring.
No Preston.
Just Genevieve Hayes.
Reporters crowded the steps.
She approached the microphone.
"Three days ago, I was supposed to get married."
Cameras flashed.
"I did not marry Preston Witmore."
The crowd murmured.
"I left because I overheard statements that made me fear for my safety and raised serious questions about my father's death."
She paused.
"I have provided information to investigators."
A reporter shouted:
"Are you romantically involved with Roman DeLuca?"
Genevieve looked directly at the cameras.
"No."
Another reporter asked:
"Did he kidnap you?"
"No. I entered his property voluntarily while fleeing people who were pursuing me."
She continued.
"I will not discuss evidence in an ongoing investigation. But I will say this."
Her voice steadied.
"My father built Hayes Logistics with honesty and hard work. I intend to protect that legacy."
She stepped away from the microphone.
For the first time in months, she felt like herself.
Roman watched from a nearby car.
When she returned, he smiled.
"Well done."
Genevieve looked at him.
"I was terrified."
"I know."
She laughed softly.
"Did it show?"
"No."
Then Roman added:
"Even if it had, you still did it."
May you like
Genevieve smiled.
And something shifted between them.
