Chapter 10 - THE TRUTH ABOUT ELENA

The recovered files led investigators to a former warehouse employee named Daniel Cross.

Daniel had worked at the port eleven years earlier.

He remembered Elena.

"She was trying to help people," he said.

Genevieve leaned forward.

"What happened to her?"

Daniel hesitated.

"She found a shipment that wasn't supposed to exist."

Roman stared.

"Where did they take her?"

Daniel looked down.

"An old processing facility outside the city."

Investigators searched the location.

The building had been abandoned for years.

But records connected it to a private company owned by Harrison Witmore.

Inside, investigators found documents suggesting Elena had been held there temporarily.

Then transferred.

To where?

That remained unclear.

Until Daniel mentioned a name.

"Rebecca Stone."

Roman frowned.

"Who is she?"

"A woman who helped people escape."

Genevieve leaned forward.

"Escape from where?"

Daniel looked at her.

"From the people running the shipments."

Investigators traced Rebecca to a community organization in Wisconsin.

She agreed to speak.

When shown Elena's photograph, she began crying.

"I know her."

Roman's heart pounded.

"Where is she?"

Rebecca wiped her eyes.

"She's alive."

The room went silent.

Then Rebecca whispered:

"She's been waiting for someone to find her."
