Chapter 6 - THE MAFIA BOSS WHO COULDN'T FIND HIS WIFE

Dante Moretti had never felt powerless.

Not when rivals threatened him.

Not when business deals collapsed.

Not when men twice his age tried to intimidate him.

But Lena's silence was destroying him.

He sat alone in the penthouse.

Her favorite mug remained in the kitchen.

Her books were gone.

Her perfume no longer lingered in the bedroom.

The apartment felt enormous.

Empty.

Cold.

Marco entered.

“Boss.”

Dante looked up.

“What?”

“We've found evidence Sofia was communicating with Vincent Vale before the anniversary.”

Dante frowned.

“About what?”

Marco hesitated.

“Your wife.”

Dante went still.

Marco placed several documents on the table.

Messages.

Financial records.

Security logs.

Sofia had been coordinating with people connected to Vincent's organization.

And someone had accessed Lena's personal information.

Dante stared.

“Why?”

Marco shook his head.

“We're still investigating.”

Dante looked toward the window.

Then whispered:

“She planned it.”

Marco nodded.

“It appears possible.”

That evening, Dante confronted Sofia.

She arrived smiling.

“Dante.”

He didn't return the smile.

“Sit.”

Sofia hesitated.

“What is this?”

He placed the documents on the table.

Her face changed.

“Explain.”

Sofia swallowed.

“Those are private messages.”

Dante leaned forward.

“Explain.”

She tried to deny it.

Then minimize it.

Then blame Lena.

“She was never right for you.”

Dante's expression hardened.

“You don't get to decide that.”

Sofia laughed bitterly.

“She left you.”

Dante looked at her.

“Yes.”

His voice broke slightly.

“And I gave her a reason.”

Sofia stared.

Dante continued.

“But you helped create the situation.”

He stood.

“You're finished working with my companies.”

Her face drained.

“Dante—”

“Leave.”

Sofia walked out furious.

But Dante didn't feel victorious.

Because exposing Sofia's manipulation didn't erase his own choice.

He had still allowed the kiss.

He had still dismissed Lena's concerns.

He had still forgotten their anniversary.

That night, Dante opened the anniversary card again.

Read it.

Then whispered:

May you like

“I'm sorry, Lena.”

But there was no one there to hear him.
