Chapter 10 - SOFIA VALE'S FINAL BETRAYAL
The investigation into the threatening messages led back to Vincent Vale.
Sofia's father had been using several businesses to conceal financial misconduct.
Dante had begun reviewing those companies.
Vincent feared exposure.
Sofia had hoped to weaken Dante's marriage and gain influence over him.
But when Lena disappeared, Vincent saw another opportunity.
He believed the pregnancy could be used to pressure Dante into abandoning the investigation.
The photograph outside the clinic had been taken by someone working for Vincent.
The threatening message came from the same network.
Dante turned the evidence over to law enforcement through his attorneys.
He also ordered a review of his own business relationships.
Sofia confronted him one final time.
“You're destroying my family.”
Dante looked at her.
“Your father made his choices.”
She laughed bitterly.
“And you made yours.”
Dante nodded.
“Yes.”
Sofia stared.
For the first time, he didn't deny his responsibility.
He didn't blame her for everything.
He didn't pretend the kiss had been meaningless simply because it hadn't become an affair.
He looked at her.
“I hurt Lena.”
His voice was quiet.
“And I won't use you as an excuse.”
Sofia's expression changed.
She had expected anger.
Threats.
Revenge.
Instead, Dante was simply finished with her.
Within weeks, investigators obtained evidence supporting charges against Vincent and several associates.
Sofia faced scrutiny over her role in the scheme.
The legal proceedings continued.
Meanwhile, Lena remained in Briar Glen.
Dante visited regularly.
But always after asking.
Always respecting her answer.
And slowly, their relationship began changing.

Not back into what it had been.
