Chapter 7 - THE NIGHT VIVIAN LOST HER SMILE

Vivian discovered the investigation before Delia expected.
She entered the annex one afternoon wearing sunglasses and a cream-colored coat.
Everyone stopped working.
Vivian rarely visited the warehouse.
She considered it dirty.
“Delia.”
Her voice was sharp.
“We need to talk.”
Delia looked up.
“I'm working.”
“Now.”
They stepped into the break room.
Vivian closed the door.
“Father says you've been asking questions.”
“I manage the accounts.”
“Don't pretend you don't know what I mean.”
Delia folded her arms.
“Did you approve Harborline Consulting?”
Vivian went still.
“What?”
“Your signature is on the vendor registration.”
Vivian laughed.
“You're confused.”
“Then explain it.”
Her sister's smile disappeared.
“You have no idea what you're interfering with.”
Delia felt her pulse quicken.
“Then tell me.”
Vivian stepped closer.
“Father made arrangements to keep the company alive.”
“By creating fake vendors?”
Vivian's eyes flashed.
“Watch your mouth.”
Delia stared.
“You knew.”
Vivian looked away.
For the first time, Delia saw fear beneath her sister's arrogance.
“Delia, please.”
The word startled her.
Vivian never said please.
“Stop looking.”
Delia swallowed.
“Why?”
Vivian's voice dropped.
“Because Nathaniel Price didn't disappear because he found the money.”
Delia's heart stopped.
“Then why?”
May you like
Vivian looked toward the door.
“Because he found out what the money was paying for.”
