Chapter 10 - Sunlight Over Long Island

================================================================================

One year after that unforgettable afternoon in the kitchen, the golden summer sun rose over the rolling green lawns of our Long Island estate in a blaze of warm amber and turquoise light.

The estate had been completely transformed.

The cold surveillance towers, the dark security barriers, and the shadows of the past were gone forever. In their place stood blooming rose gardens, open stone terraces, and a brand-new, sunlit music pavilion overlooking the serene waters of Long Island Sound.

The air was sweet with the fragrance of blooming honeysuckle, fresh sea salt, and warm, homemade chocolate chip pancakes baking in the kitchen.

Lively, joyful laughter echoed across the grounds.

In the sunlit garden courtyard, eight-year-old Olivia and seven-year-old Sophie were chasing our new golden retriever puppy, Barnaby, across the lush clover.

And standing on the polished wooden stage of the outdoor music pavilion, holding a small toy microphone, was five-year-old Nora.

She threw her head back, her brown curls dancing in the gentle ocean breeze, singing at the top of her lungs:

“You are my sunshine, my only sunshine... you make me happy when skies are gray...”

Her sisters stopped running, turned toward the pavilion, and joined in with clear, ringing harmony:

“You’ll never know, dear, how much I love you... please don’t take my sunshine away!”

Standing on the cedar terrace overlooking the celebration, I held a cup of fresh morning coffee, my heart overflowing with deep, unshakeable peace.

Using a portion of the recovered Falcone restitution funds, we had officially established the Isabelle Romano & Captain Thomas Vance Memorial Foundation, funding pediatric trauma centers and providing free legal advocacy for vulnerable children across the nation.

Grace walked out onto the terrace, wearing a beautiful white linen sundress, her chestnut hair catching the golden sunlight. She held a plate of warm strawberry pastries, her hazel eyes bright with health, peace, and eternal joy.

I wrapped a strong, loving arm around Grace’s waist, pulling her gently against my side.

“Listen to them, Grace,” I murmured softly, resting my chin on her temple.

“They have their mother’s music, Dominic,” Grace smiled warmly, leaning her head against my shoulder. “And their father’s courage.”

I turned Grace gently in my arms, looking into her clear, honest eyes with all the devotion of my soul.

I reached into my pocket and pulled out a velvet jeweler’s box, opening it to reveal a breathtaking, flawless emerald ring surrounded by sparkling diamonds.

“Grace Vance,” I said, my voice rich with boundless love. “You walked into my broken house and gave my children their voices back. You saved my family, you healed my heart, and you made this house a true home. Will you marry me and be our family forever?”

Tears of pure, overwhelming happiness welled in Grace’s eyes.

“Yes, Dominic,” she smiled, throwing her arms around my neck. “Yes, with all my heart!”

I slid the ring onto her finger and kissed her beneath the warm summer sky as Olivia, Sophie, and Nora came sprinting up the terrace steps, cheering with pure, innocent delight, throwing their small arms around both of our waists.

“Miss Grace is going to be our Mommy!” Nora cheered, jumping up and down.

Dominic and Grace laughed together, scooping all three girls into their arms in a warm, unbreakable family embrace.

The long silence, the cold shadows of fear, and the pain of the past were gone forever. Standing together in the brilliant sunlight of truth, honor, and unconditional love, their family was whole, safe, and triumphant—forever and always.
