Chapter 8 - The Restitution Decree

Six months later, the criminal and civil proceedings reached their final, crushing conclusion at the Cook County Criminal Courthouse.
Faced with an airtight forensic paper trail, unedited audio recordings from my phone, and Serena Davis’s full sworn confession in exchange for a reduced sentence, Julian was forced to plead guilty to all felony counts.
Judge Margaret Campbell looked down from the bench with piercing condemnation:
"Mr. Sterling, you exhibited a breathtaking degree of narcissism, betrayal, and predatory greed. You weaponized the trust of an honorable family and showed zero remorse when endangering the life of an infant."
THE SENTENCE:
Julian Sterling: Sentenced to twelve years in state prison without eligibility for parole for the first eight years, with full asset forfeiture of all personal bank accounts, vehicles, and luxury assets to satisfy a $1.8 million restitution judgment.
Serena Davis: Sentenced to four years in state correctional facility and ordered to return all stolen jewelry and embezzled funds.
In the family court proceeding held the following day:
Full, Sole Legal and Physical Custody of Maya Vance was awarded permanently to Elena Vance.
Julian Sterling’s parental rights were permanently terminated with prejudice.
