Chapter 10 - THE EVIDENCE BENEATH THE WATERLINE

The decisive evidence came from the Atlantic Crown.

A marine surveyor examined the vessel.

Its hull identification markings had been altered.

Maintenance records contained inconsistencies.

And archived photographs suggested the ship had previously operated under another name.

The vessel wasn't the original Northstar Belle.

But it had been connected to the same fraudulent documentation network.

I reviewed the findings.

Then looked at Dominic.

“This isn't one bad certificate.”

He nodded.

“I know.”

“It's a system.”

He looked toward the files.

“Insurance fraud?”

“Possibly more.”

I pointed toward the ownership records.

“These companies are being used to disguise who actually controls the vessels.”

Dominic's expression hardened.

“Victor.”

I nodded.

“Someone connected to him.”

Then my phone buzzed.

An anonymous message appeared.

STOP DIGGING OR YOUR HUSBAND GOES DOWN WITH THEM.

I stared.

Dominic read it over my shoulder.

His face went still.

And I realized the investigation wasn't just threatening Derek.

It was threatening Black Harbor itself.
