Chapter 9 - THE SEDAN AT THE CURB

The dark sedan became the key to the investigation.

Nora had noticed it idling outside the Aurelian long after the other guests left.

Police located traffic camera footage.

The vehicle belonged to a private security company.

The company's owner had previously worked with Marcus Bell.

Investigators identified the driver.

His name was Victor Kane.

He had a criminal record involving financial fraud and witness intimidation.

When questioned, Kane initially denied being at the restaurant.

But the camera footage contradicted him.

He eventually admitted he had been hired to wait outside.

By whom?

He claimed he didn't know.

Payment had been arranged through an intermediary.

Detective Sloan continued investigating.

Phone records showed communication between Kane and Celeste Ward.

Financial records connected Celeste to Marcus.

And surveillance footage placed both near the restaurant shortly before Lily became ill.

Enzo received the updates through his attorney.

He was furious.

But he kept his promise to cooperate with law enforcement.

He would not let anger destroy the case.

Meanwhile, Nora returned to work at a small café.

The Aurelian had not reinstated her.

Whitcomb claimed the publicity made her presence inconvenient.

Nora accepted a new job.

She refused Enzo's offer to pay her expenses.

"I don't want charity," she told him.

Enzo nodded.

"Then what do you want?"

She looked at him.

"The truth about Daniel."

May you like

Enzo held her gaze.

"That's what I'm working toward."
