Marcus Bell had spent eighteen years beside Enzo Castellani.
He knew the business.
The family.
The weaknesses.
He knew which politicians owed favors.
Which executives feared scandal.
Which accounts could be manipulated without attracting attention.
And he knew Enzo trusted him.
That trust had made him powerful.
Too powerful.
When police executed search warrants connected to Marcus's offices, investigators recovered documents linking him to the fraudulent transfers.
Additional evidence connected Celeste Ward to the same scheme.
The poisoning investigation continued separately.
But the financial records showed a network of corruption that had operated for years.
Enzo sat across from Marcus during a meeting arranged through counsel.
The atmosphere was tense.
Marcus looked tired.
But still arrogant.
"You're destroying everything we built," he said.
Enzo stared at him.
"You stole money meant for sick children."
Marcus shrugged.
"Business is complicated."
"My daughter nearly died."
Marcus's expression flickered.
Enzo continued.
"Daniel Ellis disappeared after confronting you."
Marcus looked away.
"You can't prove anything."
Enzo leaned forward.
"That's what the investigators are for."
Marcus smiled bitterly.
"You've changed."
Enzo looked at him.
"Yes."
