Chapter 5 - The Sister-in-Law’s Stolen Black Card

"It... it was an accident!" Agnes stammered, clutching her pearl necklace with sweaty, trembling fingers. "I thought she was just being dramatic! She was always complaining about feeling dizzy!"

"And what about this, Miss Vance?" Julian Hayes turned his piercing gaze onto twenty-four-year-old Chloe.

Julian produced an itemized statement from the Centurion Black credit card registered in Elena’s name.

"While Elena was undergoing emergency exploratory surgery and receiving four units of blood transfusion at Memorial Hospital," Julian read aloud, "this card was swiped at:

Chanel Boutique: $14,200 for leather handbags.

Saks Fifth Avenue: $8,600 for designer boots.

Le Cirque Restaurant: $1,200 for a luxury champagne lunch with three friends."

"She said I could use the family account!" Chloe shrieked, backing into the sofa cushions. "Leo said I was entitled to an allowance!"

"Elena never authorized you to possess or charge this corporate instrument," Julian stated coldly. "That constitutes Grand Larceny, Unauthorized Use of a Financial Transaction Device, and Identity Theft under State Penal Code Section 155."

Alexander stepped forward, his towering shadow swallowing the room.

"Marcus," Alexander commanded.
