Chapter 7 - The Corporate Purge at Sterling-Miller

The double oak doors of the hospital suite opened again.
Senior Detective Marcus Vance and three uniformed officers from the Chicago Police Department marched into the room, unholstering heavy steel handcuffs.
“Brandon Miller, Adelaide Miller, Courtney Miller,” Detective Vance declared with commanding authority. “Under State Warrants 801 through 804, you are placed under immediate arrest for Grand Corporate Larceny, Interstate Bank Fraud, Falsification of Public Notarized Instruments, and Fiduciary Embezzlement.”
CLACK.
The cold steel handcuffs snapped shut around Brandon’s wrists.
“Elena! Please!” Brandon wailed, thrashing against the officers as tears of sheer, desperate terror streamed down his face. “I was foolish! I made a mistake! It was my mother’s idea! She told me you had too much power! I love you, Elena! Think of our daughter!”
“You didn’t think of your daughter when you left her seven hours after she took her first breath, Brandon,” I whispered with profound, unyielding disgust. “You told me to figure it out. Now, figure out how to explain your crimes to a federal judge.”
Adelaide began screaming like a banshee as female deputies pinned her arms behind her back: “Elena, you monster! You ruined my family!”
“You ruined yourself, Adelaide,” I replied. “When you decided that greed was more important than honor.”

The three weeping, screaming parasites were dragged out of the hospital suite in heavy iron chains, before forty flashing news cameras gathering in the hospital foyer.
The air in the room was finally clean. The nightmare was over.
