Chapter 6 - The Eviction at Dawn

I didn't flinch. I didn't raise my voice.

I looked at Brandon, Adelaide, and Courtney with eyes of cold, absolute diamond.

“You are not the master of anything, Brandon,” I spoke, my voice ringing clear and steady through the suite. “You never owned the car. You never owned the company. And you certainly do not own the roof over your head.”

Mr. Henderson stepped forward, sliding a legal notice into Brandon’s face.

“Mr. Brandon Miller,” Mr. Henderson announced loudly. “Under Section 12 of the Illinois Chancery Code, you are officially served with an Emergency Injunction and Order of Immediate Eviction from 442 Lake Shore Drive.”

Adelaide gasped, clutching her chest: “Eviction?! That is my son’s mansion! He bought that house for our family!”

“The Lake Forest estate was purchased in 2021 by the Elena Sterling Irrevocable Living Trust,” Mr. Henderson corrected her with freezing precision. “Your son’s name appears nowhere on the deed. At 6:00 AM this morning, county bailiffs and private locksmiths replaced every lock, padlocked the front gates, and moved all personal belongings into storage containers on the curb.”

Courtney began hyperventilating, grabbing her mother’s arm. “Mom! My boutique! All my inventory is in that house!”

“Your boutique accounts have been frozen under federal discovery, Miss Miller,” Julian Hayes added coldly. “You have forty-eight hours to explain to the IRS why $450,000 in untaxed corporate remittances were routed through your business.”

Brandon’s face turned an ashen shade of curdled grey.

The arrogant, untouchable mask he had worn for three years collapsed completely, leaving only a terrified, sniveling coward.
