Chapter 10 - THE SEVEN YEARS THEY STOLE

Gabriel remembered fragments.

The warehouse.

An argument.

Richard Whitmore.

Their father.

Then an explosion.

Pain.

Darkness.

And years of confusion.

He had been told his family was dead.

That he had no surviving relatives.

That his memories were unreliable.

When he began remembering Dante, his caretakers dismissed the recollections as trauma.

Eventually, Gabriel left the facility and built a quiet life.

He worked with his hands.

Repaired bicycles.

Volunteered at a community center.

He had no idea that his brother had spent seven years mourning him.

Dante sat across from Gabriel in a small café.

Elena watched quietly.

Gabriel looked at him.

“Why didn't you find me?”

Dante closed his eyes.

“I thought you were dead.”

Gabriel stared.

“They told me the same thing about you.”

Silence.

Then Gabriel whispered:

“Who did this?”

Dante looked at him.

“I think Richard Whitmore.”

Gabriel's expression changed.

He looked toward the window.

Then said:

“He was there.”

Dante leaned forward.

“Where?”

“The night of the explosion.”

Gabriel swallowed.

“He argued with Father.”

Dante's heart hammered.

“What about?”

Gabriel closed his eyes.

Then whispered:

“Money.”

He looked at Dante.

“And something about a shipment that wasn't supposed to exist.”
