Chapter 11 - THE BETRAYAL AT MIDNIGHT
Just when Claire believed the worst was over, another betrayal surfaced.
Hannah discovered that one of C.W. Atelier's senior executives had been secretly communicating with Madeline.
The executive, Daniel Price, had provided internal documents and client information.
He had also helped create the forged amendment.
Claire was devastated.
Daniel had worked for her for five years.
She had trusted him.
Promoted him.
Helped him through a difficult divorce.
And now he'd betrayed her.
When confronted, Daniel admitted everything.
He claimed Madeline had promised him a senior position in the company after the takeover.
Claire stared at him.
“You were going to help them steal the business?”
Daniel looked down.
“Claire, I needed the money.”
She shook her head.
“So did the sixty-three people who work here.”
He said nothing.
Claire called Lauren.
Then informed the appropriate authorities.
She terminated Daniel's employment in accordance with legal advice.
But afterward, she sat alone in her office.
And cried.
Not because she was weak.
May you like
Because betrayal hurt.
Even when you survived it.
