Chapter 15 - THE QUEEN WHO WALKED OUT OF THE DARK

One year after the night Damian Cross arrived at Harrow Manor to collect a debt, Elara stood before a mirror wearing a silver wedding gown.

Her hair fell in soft waves.

A delicate moonstone crown rested above her forehead.

Her silver eyes shone.

She barely recognized herself.

Claire entered the room.

She stopped.

“Elara.”

Elara turned.

“What?”

Claire smiled through tears.

“You look like Mother.”

Elara's breath caught.

“Really?”

Claire nodded.

“She had the same eyes.”

Elara touched the crown.

“I wish she were here.”

Claire stepped forward.

Took her hands.

“I think she'd be proud.”

Elara smiled through tears.

The wedding took place in the palace gardens.

Representatives from every territory attended.

Wolves gathered along the forest edge.

The air smelled of pine and wildflowers.

And at the front stood Damian Cross.

The Alpha King.

The man who had once believed love was a weakness.

Now he stood waiting for the woman who had changed everything.

Elara walked down the aisle alone.

Not because she had no family.

But because she wanted to.

Every step belonged to her.

Her past.

Her survival.

Her freedom.

Her future.

Damian watched her approach.

His amber eyes filled with tears.

When she reached him, he took her hands.

“You came.”

Elara smiled.

“I chose to.”

Damian laughed softly.

“My favorite answer.”

The ceremony began.

The officiant spoke of ancient bonds.

Of shared responsibility.

Of love freely given.

Then Damian made his vows.

“Elara, when I first met you, I thought I was entering a house to collect a debt.”

The guests smiled.

“Instead, I found something I never knew I needed.”

He looked into her eyes.

“A woman who could stand before power and remind it to be kind.”

Tears filled Elara's eyes.

Damian continued.

“I promise never to mistake your gentleness for weakness.”

His voice trembled.

“Never to confuse your love with obedience.”

He squeezed her hands.

“And never to forget that you are beside me because you choose to be.”

Elara took a breath.

“Damian, I spent twenty-one years believing I was unwanted.”

Her voice shook.

“I believed I was defective. Dangerous. Unworthy.”

Damian's eyes filled.

She continued.

“Then you asked me a question nobody had ever asked before.”

Silence.

“What did I want?”

Damian smiled through tears.

Elara looked around at the gathered territories.

“You gave me the space to discover the answer.”

She turned back.

“And what I want is a life where love does not require fear.”

Her voice strengthened.

“A kingdom where children are not punished for being different.”

She smiled.

“And a future with you.”

When the officiant pronounced them married, the gardens erupted in applause.

Damian kissed Elara.

Silver and amber light shimmered around them.

Wolves howled from the forest.

The ancient bond glowed.

Not as a chain.

As a promise.

Later, during the celebration, Elara stood on the balcony overlooking the palace grounds.

Damian joined her.

“Escaping your own wedding?”

She laughed.

“Just getting some air.”

He stood beside her.

Below them, music filled the gardens.

Claire danced with members of the eastern council.

Vivian laughed with guests from Boston.

Gideon argued cheerfully with a historian.

And for the first time in generations, the northern territories celebrated a queen who had not been chosen for wealth or political convenience.

She had been chosen because she chose to stand beside the king.

Damian looked at Elara.

“Do you remember the night we met?”

She smiled.

“How could I forget?”

“Your father offered me a marriage alliance.”

Elara laughed softly.

“With my sisters.”

Damian nodded.

“I thought I was making a practical decision.”

“Were you?”

He shook his head.

“Not even close.”

Elara leaned against him.

“You looked very frightening.”

Damian smiled.

“I was trying.”

She laughed.

He kissed her forehead.

Below them, the palace gates stood open.

Families moved freely through the gardens.

Children laughed.

Wolves played beneath the trees.

And the old laws that had once justified fear and confinement had been replaced with protections for freedom and dignity.

Elara looked toward the distant mountains.

“Damian?”

“Yes?”

“Do you think my mother would have liked you?”

He considered.

“Probably not at first.”

Elara laughed.

“Why?”

Damian smiled.

“I was arrogant.”

“Was?”

He looked offended.

She laughed harder.

Damian pulled her closer.

“You're enjoying this.”

“Very much.”

The moon rose above the mountains.

Silver light touched Elara's face.

Her wolf stirred peacefully beneath her skin.

For twenty-one years, she had lived in darkness.

Hidden.

Silenced.

Told she was a mistake.

But now she stood beneath an open sky.

Loved.

Free.

And powerful in ways she was only beginning to understand.

Damian took her hand.

“Ready to go back inside, my queen?”

Elara smiled.

“One condition.”

He raised an eyebrow.

“Name it.”

“You dance with me.”

Damian sighed dramatically.

“I command armies.”

“And?”

“I negotiate treaties.”

“And?”

He looked at her.

“I am terrible at dancing.”

Elara laughed.

“Then you'll learn.”

Damian smiled.

“Yes, my queen.”

Together, they walked back toward the music.

And the girl who had once been hidden behind a locked door finally understood the truth.

She had never been the daughter nobody wanted.

She had been the woman a frightened world wasn't ready to face.

Until one stormy night, she walked out of the dark.

And changed a kingdom forever.
