Chapter 10 - THE NIGHT THE TRUTH WENT PUBLIC

The hearing began at nine thirty.
The courtroom was packed.
Reporters lined the hallway.
Saraphina sat beside her attorney.
Callahan sat behind her.
I entered with Gabriel, Julian, and Nathaniel.
For a moment, the room went silent.
Then the judge called the case.
My attorney presented the evidence.
Traffic footage.
Vehicle records.
Financial transfers.
Forensic inconsistencies.
The judge reviewed the documents.
Then looked toward the prosecutor.
The state requested additional time to investigate.
My attorney moved for dismissal of the charges against me.
The judge granted the motion after the prosecution acknowledged that the evidence no longer supported the accusation.
I stared.
For a moment, I couldn't breathe.
Then Gabriel squeezed my hand.
“Ellie.”
I looked at him.
He smiled.
“It's over.”
My eyes filled.
But I shook my head.
“No.”
May you like
I looked toward Callahan.
“Not yet.”
