Chapter 12 - THE HOUSE THAT BECAME A SCHOOL

Two years passed.

Luna graduated with honors.

The literacy center expanded.

And Luca completed the difficult process of leaving the criminal organization he'd inherited.

Several legitimate Moretti businesses continued under independent management.

Others were sold.

The family mansion stood mostly empty.

One afternoon, Luca took Luna through its grand entrance.

She looked around.

The marble floors still gleamed.

The chandeliers still sparkled.

But the house felt different.

Quieter.

Less threatening.

“What are we doing here?” she asked.

Luca smiled.

“I want to show you something.”

He led her into the ballroom.

Where one hundred heiresses had once competed for his attention, rows of tables now stood beneath bright lights.

Bookshelves lined the walls.

Children's artwork covered the windows.

Luna stared.

“What is this?”

Luca took her hand.

“A school.”

She looked at him.

He smiled.

“The Moretti Family Learning Center.”

Her eyes filled.

“Luca…”

He continued.

“We're converting the estate into an education and community center. Adult literacy. Language classes. After-school programs. Job training.”

Luna covered her mouth.

He looked nervous.

“I hoped you'd help design the programs.”

She stared.

Then shook her head.

“No.”

His face fell.

Luna laughed through tears.

“Not as a favor to you.”

He blinked.

She continued.

“If I do this, I want a real position. A real board. Independent funding oversight. Professional standards.”

Luca smiled slowly.

“Agreed.”

“And no naming it after me.”

He laughed.

“Agreed.”

Luna looked around the ballroom.

The room where she'd once felt invisible would become a place where people learned to believe in themselves.

She began crying.

May you like

Luca held her.

And for the first time, the mansion felt like something beautiful.
