Chapter 9 - THE BETRAYAL AT THE ENGAGEMENT DINNER

The engagement dinner was supposed to unite two families.
Instead, it destroyed their alliance.
Gabriel arrived with his attorney.
Isabella smiled when she saw him.
“Darling.”
Gabriel didn't kiss her.
He placed a folder on the table.
Lorenzo Marino frowned.
“What's this?”
Gabriel looked at him.
“Evidence.”
Silence.
He continued.
“Unauthorized transfers. Fraudulent contracts. Attempts to compromise my employees.”
Isabella went pale.
Gabriel turned toward her.
“And threats against Clara Bennett's family.”
Her smile vanished.
“Gabriel—”
He raised one hand.
“No.”
Lorenzo stood.
“You're making a mistake.”
Gabriel looked at him.
“Probably.”
He removed his engagement ring.
Placed it on the table.
“But not this one.”
Isabella stared.
“You can't do this.”
Gabriel's expression hardened.
“Watch me.”
He turned toward the door.
Then paused.
“And Lorenzo?”
The older man glared.
Gabriel smiled coldly.
“The authorities already have copies.”
Then he walked out.
