Chapter 3 - THE BRIDE WHO WANTED HER GONE

Isabella Marino arrived at Shore Enterprises just after noon.
She wore a cream designer suit and a diamond engagement ring large enough to catch the light from across the room.
Gabriel looked up from his desk.
“Isabella.”
She smiled.
“Darling.”
She kissed his cheek.
Then glanced toward Clara's empty desk.
“Where's your little secretary?”
Gabriel's expression hardened.
“Clara resigned.”
Isabella paused.
Then smiled.
“Really?”
Something in her tone irritated him.
“Yes.”
“How unfortunate.”
Gabriel studied her.
“You don't sound disappointed.”
Isabella laughed.
“Gabriel, she's been practically living in your office for four years.”
“She works here.”
“Worked.”
He said nothing.
Isabella sat across from him.
“Honestly, it's for the best.”
Gabriel looked up.
“What?”
She adjusted her bracelet.
“A married man shouldn't have another woman managing every detail of his life.”
Gabriel stared.
“Clara managed my business.”
Isabella smiled.
“Of course.”
Then she added, “And now she won't.”
Gabriel leaned back.
“Did you say something to her?”
Isabella blinked.
“Excuse me?”
“Clara.”
His voice hardened.
“Did you speak to her?”
Isabella's smile faded.
“Why would you ask that?”
May you like
Gabriel watched her.
Because suddenly, Clara's resignation didn't feel like a coincidence.
