Chapter 5 - THE MAN WHO KNEW MY MOTHER

Cedric found me crying in the library.
I hadn't heard his wheelchair approach.
He stopped near the doorway.
"Analisa?"
I wiped my face.
"I'm fine."
He studied me.
"No."
I looked away.
He moved closer.
"What happened?"
I hesitated.
Then told him.
About the fire.
The letter.
Tomaso's warning.
Cedric listened without interrupting.
When I finished, his expression had changed.
"My father knew your mother."
I stared.
"What?"
He nodded.
"Elena Vincenzi."
My heart stopped.
"You knew her name?"
"Yes."
I swallowed.
"How?"
He looked down.
"She worked for my family."
Silence.
I stared at him.
"My mother was a nurse."
Cedric nodded.
"She was."
I felt cold.
"What aren't you telling me?"
He looked up.
"Your mother treated my father after an assassination attempt."
I stared.
"And?"
He swallowed.
"She discovered something."
My heart pounded.
"What?"
May you like
Cedric's voice lowered.
"That the person who ordered the attack was someone inside the family."
