Chapter 10 - THE DOCTOR WHO LIED
Cedric's physician was Dr. Julian Mercer.
He had treated the Spedaro family for years.
He was respected.
Trusted.
And always impeccably dressed.
But when an independent specialist reviewed Cedric's records, several discrepancies emerged.
Medication changes had not been properly documented.
Therapy appointments had been canceled without Cedric's knowledge.
And certain test results had been withheld.
Cedric confronted Mercer in the study.
I was there.
By choice.
This time, nobody had ordered me to come.
Mercer looked at the documents.
"These are misunderstandings."
Cedric stared.
"Explain them."
The doctor hesitated.
"Your condition is complicated."
Cedric's expression hardened.
"My condition is not the question."
Mercer swallowed.
Cedric continued.
"Why were my records altered?"
Silence.
Then Mercer whispered:
"I was told to."
My heart stopped.
"By whom?" I asked.
He looked at me.
Then at Cedric.
His face drained.
"Your father."
Cedric went completely still.
"My father is dead."
Mercer swallowed.
"No."
Silence.

Then he whispered:
"He's alive."
